Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Golf course in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent to support all aspects of golf course maintenance. This is a hands-on leadership role that includes crew supervision, daily setup, and active involvement in cultural practices. Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in planning and execution of daily golf course maintenance and projects.
• Supervise and lead the grounds crew with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Maintain the highest standards of turf care, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pesticide applications.
• Monitor course conditions and provide timely feedback to the Superintendent.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.
• Participate in irrigation system operation and repair.
• Support training and development of team members.
• Champion safe work practices across all maintenance activities.
• Be up to date on federal, state, and local laws on golf course operations.
• Demonstrate administrative and executive ability, especially critical in problem-solving and decision-making.
• Work in a team atmosphere while executing the vision of the Superintendent.
• Perform required role in emergency situations.
Requirements:
An associate’s degree from an intensive two-year turfgrass management program.
Previous work as an assistant to an experienced golf course superintendent is required.
Previous supervisory experience in a club or golf course setting.
Minimum 1–2 years of golf course maintenance experience; supervisory experience is a plus.
SC pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Strong communication skills and a commitment to excellence.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as required.
Passion for the golf industry and a desire to grow professionally.
Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA) membership.
Pesticide application certification.
Valid driver’s license.
Compensation:
$65,000 – $70,000 per year.
