Essential Responsibilities:

Duties of the job include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong and frequent collaboration with the Division Team
  • Teach area of specialty to students, utilizing course of study adopted by The Lexington School
  • Serve as Student Advisor to work with students as they develop as whole people, fostering development in the mission skills of the school.
  • Supervise students during school to include field trips, recess, lunch, breaks and other events.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that reflect the curriculum and core educational standards.
  • Adapt curriculum for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
  • Maintain lesson plans and pacing schedules as part of curriculum mapping.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. to facilitate higher-level thinking development. This could include but not limited to standing, bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, helping to lift, move or relocate objects in the learning space as part of the instructional process.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports and report cards.
  • Provide opportunities for students to perform, compete, demonstrate, and improve upon skills learned.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, phone calls, and e-mail to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, behavioral, and learning challenges.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional growth activities.
  • Participate in grade level, division, and full faculty meetings, and serve on school committees as required.
  • Attend divisional and school-wide required events such as prep-planning, Open Houses, conferences, etc.
  • Present a positive image of The Lexington School to the outside community, including social networking sites.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and/or Division Head.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education or pertinent subject area from accredited university required, Master’s or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience in an elementary school or work with elementary school-aged children preferred.

Supervision:

Directly reports to the Division Head

This is a full-time, 10-month teaching position, effective July 1, 2025 .
