Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientists will participate in less complex scientific work to protect public health and the environment by fostering sustainable pest management (SPM) practices. The focus of the work is on integrated pest management (IPM) systems and SPM practices in agricultural, urban, and wildland environments; and preventing environmental or human health problems due to the unintended effects of pesticides. Within a team environment, the incumbents will serve as grant managers in DPR’s Grants Program. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Developing, writing, negotiating, and managing/co-managing Research and Alliance Grant proposals and agreements and contacts
  • Evaluating Research and Alliance Grant proposals for funding and awards
  • Creating, updating, and editing Research and Alliance Grant Solicitation materials
  • Communicating with management, team members, and stakeholders regarding DPR's Research and Alliance Grants Programs
  • Representing DPR on topics related to integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable pest management (SPM)
  • Assisting the Pesticide Use Reporting (PUR) Program with identifying and correcting errors in the database.
The Environmental Scientists will also consider, apply, and demonstrate DPR's organizational values of Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, and Continuous Improvement when carrying out the department's mission and vision.
